We are all aware of how marketing has evolved from offline to online from the early 2000s and how businesses are adapting to online marketing through various digital marketing platforms available to them to make their brand heard. Brands are making sure they have an online presence today, because the digital world constantly adjusts, adapts, and advances with the shifting technology landscape.

Most brands like to stick with basics of website presence & paid marketing, but what they’re missing out on is email marketing as most companies believe it to be obsolete and less influential.

Sheryl Sandberg from Facebook had quoted in the year 2010, that it is the “end of email”. However, in the same year, Radicati Group estimated that about 247 billion emails were sent per day in 2010, compared to a projected estimated of 347.3 billion in 2023, which means email marketing was performing well and will continue to be the central part of the digital life. With this estimation, it is advised that small businesses start adopting email marketing strategies in the year 2020 and continue to stay at the top of the email marketing game, to increase the ROI.

Here’s a list of email marketing trends that you need to follow in the year 2020.

1. Emails Accessibility for Visually Impaired –

Just like popular social media applications, Instagram had made its platform more accessible for visually impaired users in November 2018 by introducing the alternative text (alt-text) for pictures that provide a description of an uploaded picture.

News is that email coding games will get more powerful in the year 2020 & will adapt to the feature that will help visually impaired users to access emails easily. Adopting this strategy in your email marketing will increase clicks for business emails resulting in sales and ROI.

2. Voice Assistance and Email Marketing Game in 2020 –

Voice assistance was first introduced in 2011 (unless you count the original third-party app it was based on from 2010) almost nine years ago, making Siri the oldest voice assistant, Microsoft’s Cortona & Alexa will be turning six and Google Assistant will be turning four in 2020. Voice assistants’ popularity has come a long way in the past 9 years and by the look of it, it will continue to rise exponentially.

Voice assistants will become a medium for those with visual and mobility impairment, as it will provide a way to access information otherwise unavailable to them, given that emails use alt text for images they’ll be using for normal subscribers.

3. Optimizing & Designing Emails for Mobile Devices –

Make sure to prioritize and optimize email designs keeping in mind mobile devices, as it is believed that mobile browsing has surpassed desktop browsing already. Most businesses have seen an increase in revenue, traffic & clicks through mobile devices compared to desktop devices.

Google had already introduced AMPs in the year 2015, to focus more on mobile devices. AMPs allow pages to load faster on mobile devices. The design of the email copy should be concise enough for mobile viewing. Hence, the mobile-first design & coding the email to make it viewable on mobile devices and making it load faster will be emphasized in the year 2020.
