A healthcare clinic group in Abu Dhabi had a strong English SEO presence. Their English-language pages ranked well for specialty and procedure terms. What they were missing was a simple fact: a significant portion of their patients were Emirati or Arab expatriates who searched in Arabic.
When we ran a keyword analysis of Arabic search volume for their specialties, we found that their Arabic-speaking potential audience was searching for terms that generated a combined 4,200 monthly searches in their geographic area. Their website had zero Arabic content. None of their competitors in the top 5 had invested meaningfully in Arabic SEO either.
We built 12 Arabic landing pages over six weeks. Within three months, those pages were driving 140 new sessions per month from Arabic-language searches and generating 18 appointment inquiries, from an audience that had previously had no digital pathway to the clinic at all.
The UAE Arabic Search Landscape
The UAE’s population is approximately 10 million, of which roughly 11% are UAE nationals and a further significant proportion are Arabic-speaking nationals from Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Lebanon, and other Arab countries. Together, this represents a substantial Arabic-speaking audience within the UAE.
Modern Standard Arabic versus dialectal Arabic. Online Arabic content predominantly uses Modern Standard Arabic (MSA), the formal written Arabic used across the Arab world, rather than Emirati dialect. SEO content should generally use MSA, which reaches the broadest Arabic-speaking audience.
Right-to-left layout requirements. Arabic is written right to left, requiring dedicated RTL page layout. SEO-optimised Arabic content cannot simply be an Arabic translation placed into an English-layout template. The entire user experience needs to reflect Arabic reading patterns.
Transliteration search behaviour. Many Arabic-speaking users in the UAE search using Latin characters to spell Arabic words phonetically. Keyword research for Arabic SEO must capture both scripts.
Reduced competition. Arabic SEO in the UAE is significantly less competitive than English SEO for most categories. A brand that publishes quality, consistent Arabic content in a category where competitors are English-only can achieve page 1 rankings with less effort and in less time. This is one of the most underutilised opportunities in UAE digital marketing.
Building a Bilingual SEO Strategy
Step 1: Arabic Keyword Research
Arabic keyword research cannot simply translate your English keyword list. Arabic search terms reflect different cultural contexts, different question structures, and different vocabulary choices. Use Google Keyword Planner with country set to UAE and language set to Arabic, combined with native Arabic speaker input, to build a keyword set that reflects how UAE Arabic speakers actually search.
Step 2: Technical Implementation
Implement hreflang tags with `ar-AE` on all Arabic pages, paired with `en-AE` for English equivalents. Use subfolder structure such as /ar/ rather than a subdomain for domain authority consolidation. Maintain separate XML sitemaps for Arabic and English content. Our website development team builds the technical architecture for bilingual UAE sites as part of our standard approach.
Step 3: Content Creation
Arabic content must be created by fluent Arabic writers who understand the UAE market context, not produced through machine translation, which consistently produces unnatural Arabic that native speakers identify immediately.
The categories where Arabic eCommerce SEO has the highest impact include fashion and abaya, food and grocery, Islamic products, children’s products, and home goods.
Step 4: Arabic Local SEO
Google Business Profile supports Arabic content. Add your business description, services, and posts in Arabic as well as English. This improves visibility in Arabic local searches and signals to Google that you genuinely serve the Arabic-speaking community.
This bilingual SEO approach connects with our Generative Search Optimisation service as well, since AI systems including Arabic-capable models cite Arabic content from UAE sources when answering Arabic-language queries.

Frequently Asked Questions
How much of UAE search happens in Arabic?
Arabic search queries typically account for 15 to 35% of total UAE search volume in consumer categories and higher proportions in government-adjacent, healthcare, and education categories.
Is machine translation sufficient for Arabic SEO in the UAE?
No. Machine-translated Arabic content is detectable by native speakers, produces poor user experience, and does not perform well in search.
How long does Arabic SEO take to show results?
Given lower competition in Arabic versus English for most UAE categories, Arabic SEO typically shows ranking improvements faster, often within 3 to 4 months for well-optimised content.
